The first National Day of Prayer and Fasting in Abraham Lincoln’s administration was the last Thursday in September, 1861:

“And whereas when our own beloved country once, by the blessing of God, united, prosperous and happy, is now afflicted with faction and civil war, it is peculiarly fit for us to recognize the hand of God in this terrible visitation, and in sorrowful rememberance of our own faults and crimes as a nation and as individuals, to humble ourselves before Him and to pray for His mercy…that the inestimable boon of civil and religious liberty, earned under His guidance and blessing by the labors and sufferings of our fathers, may be restored.”

In 1862, during prayer with Eliza Gueney and three other Quakers, Abraham Lincoln unburdened his heart.

“If I had my way this war would never have commended.  If I had been allowed my way this war would have ended before this.  But we find it still continues and we must believe that He permits it for some wise purpose of His own, mysterious and unknown to us, and though with our limited understanding we may not be able to comprehend it, yet we connot but believe that He who made the world still governs it.”

In terms of stature - of the debt we owe certain Americans for what they did for this Republic - no one stands taller than George Washington, rightly called the country’s father, and Abraham Lincoln, called its redeemer.

One of those in the next rank is John Marshall who, more than anyone else, shaped, defined the authority, and sent the tone of the US Supreme Court.

Chief Justice Marshall for more than thirty years, delighted in traveling anonymously usually in casual attire.  Once, in a hotel tavern, some young men invited him to join their debate on Christianity.  For over an hour he calmly deisarmed every arguement brought against the teaching of Jesus.  Only after he had left, did they learn who he was.

• April 2008.  The U.S. Geological Service issued a report that only scientists and oilmen knew was coming.  It is a revised report (not updated since 1995) on how much oil was in this area of the western 2/3 of North Dakota ; western South Dakota ; and extreme eastern Montana … check THIS out:
  • The Bakken is the largest domestic oil discovery since Alaska’s Prudhoe Bay, with the potential to eliminate all American dependence on foreign oil by itself.
  • The Energy Information Administration (EIA) estimates it at 503 billion barrels. Even if just 10% of the oil is recoverable… at $107 a barrel, we’re looking at a resource base worth more than $5.3 trillion.
  • ‘When I first briefed legislators on this, you could practically see their jaws hit the floor. They had no idea.’ says Terry Johnson, the Montana Legislature’s financial analyst.
  • ‘This sizable find is now the highest-producing onshore oil field found in the past 56 years,’ reports The Pittsburgh Post Gazette.
  • It’s a formation known as the Williston Basin, but is more commonly referred to as the ’Bakken.’ And it stretches from Northern Montana, through North Dakota and into Canada .
• For years, U.S.oil exploration has been considered a dead end.  Even the Liberal hated ‘Big Oil’ companies gave up searching for major onshore oil wells decades ago.  However, a recent technological breakthrough has opened up the Bakken’s massive reserves.  We now can access of up to 500 billion barrels of light, sweet oil
• The estimated cost to Americans is just $16 PER BARREL!
• Saudi Arabia is producing 9 million barrels per day. That is about 3.3 billion barrels per year. Thus 500 billion barrels is over 150 Saudi Arabias, or one Saudi Arabia for over 150 years of oil production!  And Liberals, including Obama, say we can’t drill ourselves out of the high oil price problem!!

• Hidden 1,000 feet beneath the surface of the Rocky Mountains lies the largest untapped oil reserve in the world is more than 2 TRILLION barrels. Did you know on August 8, 2005 President Bush mandated its extraction.  Liberals in State Government and Congress have stopped any progress!  [U.S.Oil Discovery- Largest Reserve in the World! Stansberry Report Online - 4/20/2006]

• They reported this stunning news: “We have more oil inside our borders, than all the other proven reserves on earth.”  Here are the official estimates:

                     -8  times as much oil as the total within Saudi Arabia
                     -18  times as much oil as the total within Iraq
                     -21  times as much oil as the total within Kuwait

• GREATER THAN THE ENTIRE MIDDLE EAST, NIGERIA, VENEZUELA, and INDONESIA put together, and it’s all right here in COLORADO, UTAH, and WYOMING.  James Bartis, lead researcher with the study says “we’ve got more oil in this very compact area than the entire Middle East -more than 2 TRILLION barrels”. Untapped.
• That’s more than all the proven oil reserves of crude oil in the world today, reports The Denver Post.
• Using a conservative 1.3 trillion barrels this represents over 390 Saudi Arabias, or one Saudi Arabia for over 390 years of oil production!  And Liberals, including Obama, say we can’t drill ourselves out of the high oil price problem!!  Conservatives, like Sarah Palin, know we can!!

• Remember in August 2008, Liberals like Nancy Polisi and Harry Reid, stopped, then shut down Congress to keep Conservatives from speaking and passing a real energy plan, while Democrats went on vacation.  Did your gas, natural gas, electric, and heating oil costs go on vacation?
• Because the Liberal, leftist Democrats, Liberal Republicans, Liberal environmentalists (in contrast to Conservative environmentalists), and their willingly, ignorant accomplices the Liberal, leftist Drive-by media continue to hide the facts, misinform, and block all efforts in America to achieve independence from foreign oil.
• Even within the last two weeks they continued their misinformation to Coloradans and all Americans in their attempts to stop onshore drilling.  “Oil Shale Decision Assailed” (referring to current Liberal Democrat Colorado Governor Ritter and Colorado US Democrat Senator Ken Salazar), Rocky Mountain News, September 5, 2008.

• Don’t think foreign oil, especially ‘OPEC’, will drop its price?
• Think  again! 
• The truth is, its all about economics and the competitive marketplace.

• Stay informed (remember the Drive-by media have alot of captive minds of mush).
• Alert your friends and neighbors to the facts.
• Do not be afraid to discuss the facts with Liberals.
• Register is vote, if you have not yet done so.
• Vote.
• Support Conservative candidates for ALL local, state, and federal offices (it is not just in Congress where solutions are being stopped).
• Vote ALL Liberals out of office, be they Democrat, Republican, Independent, or other.
• Never, never, never give up!

• Consider that you (”all it takes is for good men to do nothing for evil to prevail”) will be approving the Liberal trashing of America and to kick yourself the next time you complain about:
  • almost $1 Trillion to be wasted on Fannie Mae bailout
  • too high taxes
  • too high gas prices
  • attacks on your freedom to speak
  • separation of church from State and attacks on your freedom of religion
  • usurpation of private property rights
  • attacks on your Second Amendment rights
  • total failure to control the borders
  • flood of illegal aliens
  • bankruptcy of Social Security
  • destruction of American manufacturing, and loss of American manufacturing jobs
  • destruction of American engineering superiority
  • destruction of the black family
  • destruction of over 50 million (more than an entire generation) Americans through legalized Abortion
  • waste of over $2 Trillion trying to eliminate the poor from America instead the number of poor increased.
  • destruction of literacy in America
  • destruction and complete failure of Public Education
  • and a great many more.

On September 21, 1776, a young Yale graduate student, Nathan Hale, was captured in the disguise of a Dutch school master by the British. As he was about to be hung as a spy, he requested a Bible and the services of a minister, but these last requests were refused.

His last words would never be forgotton by those who heard them:

“I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country”

Unbeknown to those urging him one way or the other on the question of imancipation, Abraham Lincoln had already privately written such a proclamination.  His only concern (just like Sarah Palin’s statement toher church) was it part of God’s plan? 

With the Army of Northern Virginia advancing towards Pennsylvania, and the Union Army hoping to stop them at Antietam, Lincoln prayed (Charlie Gibson take note).  After the Union victory, the President informed his Cabinet on this day in 1862, of his decision to issue the Imancipation Proclamination.

“I made a solemn vow before god, that if General Lee were driven back, I would crown the result by the declaration of freedom to the slaves.”

Most church, sport, and public events sing only the first verse of this hymn, our National Anthem.  Unwittingly these are hiding the history and fitting into compliance with the anti-God elements in our society which threaten to remove “In God We Trust” from our motto and currency.  How this would change when these church, sport, and public events include these last, beautiful words:

O! thus be it ever when free men shall stand

Between their loved home and the war’s desolation

Blest with vict’ry and peace, may the Heav’n-rescued land

Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation!

Then conquer we must, when the cause it is just;

And this be our motto, “In God is our trust!”

In the early hours of September 4, 1814, a fierce storm came up further obscuring the drama that was being played out in Baltimore’s harbor.  Francis Scott Key strained to see the Stars and Stripes over Fort McHenry.  Then, at the first light of dawn, he saw her and wrote the words that have stirred our hearts ever since:

A group of Boy Scouts brought 84 garbage bags full of the discarded flags to the site of a Republican rally in Colorado Springs today, where veterans distributed them throughout the assembled crowd. McCain supporters waved the recycled flags and chanted “U.S.A.” as they welcomed Republican candidate John McCain and his running mate, Sarah Palin.”

Energy: America’s energy crunch is sadly self-inflicted. While others around the world engage in a mad dash to find more oil reserves, Obama and the Leftist Leaders of the U.S. seems to think $140-a-barrel oil won’t be affected by more supply.

Drilling The Future  Part 1 of many

Yesterday Senator and Democrat Presidential candidate Barrak Huessein Obama ensured people know more about the real Obama:

“If you put lipstick on a pig, it is still a pig” referring to Republican Governor and VP candidate Sarah Palin.

Obama has been loosing this campaign since he went to Germany, stating “I am a citizen of the world”.  This latest statement should be what historians will call the end of his campaign.

About this time, children of all ages head back to school.  In the early 18th century lexicographer Noah Webster wrote of the teaching profession:

“The education of youth is an employment of more consequence than making laws and preaching the Gospel, because it lays the foundation on which both law and Gospel rest for success.”

Webster’s Dictionary and his History of the United States were not the only books Noah Webster authored.  His famous “blue-backed speller” sold an incredible one million copies a year for 100 years!  In one of his early editions appeared a Moral Catechism, rules for moral conduct, in which Webster stated:

“God’s Word, contained in the Bible, has furnished all necessary rules to direct our conduct”

General Washington made no secret of his Christian faith, or of his desire that others in his command should have the same resource. In his general order calling for divine services every Sunday, he said:

“To the distinguished character of a Patriot, it should be our highest glory to add the more distinguished character of a Christian.”

Thomas Jefferson, himself a slave-holder, became convinced of the evil of that “peculiar institution”.  In his will, he freed Monticello’s slaves, as he would no longer be there to care for them. 

Thinking about slavery, and what it was doing to America, he pondered:

“Can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that they are a gift of God?  Indeed, I tremble for my countrymen when I reflect that God is just, that His justice cannot sleep forever.”

In the late 19th century, Captian Alfred Thayer Mahan, United States Navy, responsible for developing the doctrine of U.S. Naval sea power, wrote books that were studied by every class in Annapolis.  This is what he said about another book:

“Upon the Bible my life rests for whatsoever is good and strong…(Christ) is to me one who speaks with authority no less than Divine, to whom I submit where I do not understand”
